New Mountain Bike Challenge in Stellenbosch to Coincide with Wine Festival
The organizers of one of South Africa’s premier wine shows, the Stellenbosch Wine Festival, have decided to add a little sporting excitement to their line-up this year, by incorporating the Stellenbosch Mountain Bike Challenge on the Festival’s Day 3, Saturday 5 August.
Three distances – 60km, 30km and 15km – will cater for various levels of riders, and the routes will include terroir in several of the region’s famous wine estates. The winter weather should add a bit more bite to the varied conditions.
Course designer Meurant Botha from Dirtopia is keeping the exact details of the routes a secret until race day. Botha, who has been building and maintaining trails for more than eight years, recently returned from Canada where he attended an International Mountain Bicycling Association conference and took a few trail-building courses – so expect some surprises en route!
To enter contact the Dirtopia Trail Centre: +27 (0) 21 884 4752, or theteam@dirtopia.co.za. Pre-entries will be accepted until Friday, 28 July, and late entries at registration from 7 a.m. on the 5th of August.
