Exchanging Money in South Africa

Spare yourself a dreaded visit to one of SA’s banks: cash traveller’s checks and exchange money at smaller forex-dedicated counters. These generally keep longer hours than the banks (especially in malls), and are usually much faster in processing transactions.

The two best places to go for forex (both have branches countrywide) are:

Tip: After exchanging money, keep the receipt you’re given. You won’t be able to exchange SA rands back into your original currency without it.
