Annika Sorenstam Set to Storm Sun City at Women’s World Cup of Golf
A bevy of the world’s best women golfers has arrived in South Africa, to contest the $1.1 million Women’s World Cup of Golf, played over the next three days at the par 72 Gary Player Country Club at Sun City, in North West Province.
Unlike last year’s Cup, this time ’round the field includes world number one Annika “THE CRUSHER” Sorenstam, playing alongside Liselotte “WHO?” Neumann for their native Sweden. The 2005 tournament had a top viewership of 450 million households. With Sorenstam on board, this is likely to increase by half; add Neumann to the mix and it’ll creep up a further .00073%.
Go South Africa!
Meanwhile, SA Blog is pulling for South Africa’s own Cup pairing, experienced all-rounder Laurette Maritz and child prodigy Ashleigh Simon.
It’s hot up there in the North West. And humid. And the scuttlebutt on the links is that, in today’s betterball competition, those playing from the rough will have no chance of winning the tournament.
