Meet Shelly from Northwestern University
Howzit, SouthAfricablog.com!
The energy and sunshine of Jo’burg is absolutely exhilarating! What a great change from the Chicago chill. Hey everyone, my name is Shelly and I am a Junior at the Medill School of Journalism, part of Northwestern University. Hailing from Dallas, TX I gravitate toward the sun and am currently interning at the Star newspaper in Johannesburg.
To be honest, I have been looking forward to coming to South Africa since starting at NU, having heard rumors of the internship program in Joburg. Yet, when I landed in SA, I was a bit stunned that I’d actually made it. I wasn’t sure whether to expect lions and tigers, robbers and rapists or people dancing and drumming in the streets.
In the past two weeks, I have seen it all. Joburg is vibrant and full of life – especially the Central Business District (CBD), where the Star is located, and Melville, where I am living with 5 other people from NU. After two weeks I just want more! I can’t wait to explore further as the days go by. I look forward to meeting many more people, discovering new places, travelling to surrounding cities and maybe the surrounding countries – and sharing it all with SouthAfricaBlog.com readers. Stay tuned!
