2007 Kruger Park Birding Weekend Dates Named
The dates for next year’s “Birding Weekend” at the Kruger National Park have been set: it starts on Friday, 26 January, and ends the following Sunday afternoon.
The weekend, which has been running for eight consecutive years, is an initiative of Birdlife SA, and attracts battle-hardened twitchers and “what’s a Lilac Breasted Roller” novices alike. The package price, which includes two nights in the park, a minimum of 10 hours’ worth of guided game drives (you’re looking for birds, but are guaranteed to see many of the major safari mammals as well), and two bushveld braais (barbecues), is a bargain at just R900.
Birdlife SA organizes wilderness-themed birdwatching excursions all over South Africa, and usually manages to secure great accommodation and tour deals. The website is worth a thorough browse.
- Booking for the Kruger Birding Weekend opens in August, and usually sells out quickly. Write to knpbirding@webmail.co.za for more information.
