Reformed train surfers lead safety campaign
Train surfing has been a scourge in South Africa of late and hundreds of young black men have lost life and limb trying to impress girls, passengers and fellow train surfers.
Train surfing is the act of either riding the roof of the train, running along the walls of tunnels or hanging out the train while it is moving. It is a phenomenon also seen in countries like Brazil, where in many cases, bravado comes before brains.
Most of these kids have nothing to lose and so the ante gets upped until someone dies. Some reformed train surfers have now organised to speak in schools and form a campaign to try and put and end to it.
