Clinton, Gates Come to Cape Town (and Stay at Cape Grace?)
The Africa leg of the Government Leaders Forum, currently on at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), has featured quite an impressive star “billing” – both the Chairman of the Forum’s sponsor, Microsoft, and the main man at the WJ Clinton Foundation have been spotted in attendance.
That would be Bill Gates and Bill Clinton, for those of you fresh from a twenty-year sojourn to Mars. They’re here to talk development, technology and HIV/AIDS. Bill and his wife, Melinda, were in Khayelitsha yesterday, visiting a clinic as part of their ongoing Gates Foundation health care work.

Incidentally, the last time Clinton visited Cape Town in his official capacity as POTUSA (that’s President of the etc. etc.), he stayed at the 5-star Cape Grace Hotel, at the V&A Waterfront. He apparently thoroughly enjoyed it, so odds are he’s there again. The Cape Grace has the distinction of being named the “top hotel in the world” by Condé Naste Traveller (2000), and, situated among the ships of the Waterfront’s inner harbor, is a splendid place to rest your head. If you’re looking for a more modest night’s stay, a visit to the hotel’s whisky bar, Bascule, is still a must. It’s the best place for a single malt in town.
