The Durban July, and Durban in July.

So Durban and the whole of South Africa are well into winter. For us Durbanites it comes as a welcome relief from the heat, but it’s still warm enough for people to go water skiing, enjoy the beach and sit outside after sunset! Talking about water and beaches…

the month of July brings the 8th annual 6-star World Qualifying Series Mr Price Pro to North Beach. The 10 day event starts on 29 June and is just one of the many attractions during the Vodacom Beach Africa festival held along the Golden Mile from 2 to 11 July, which features some of the hottest action in the sea, on the sand and in the air.

The concert I mentioned in my last post was awesome… the music was fantastic and the venue even better!! My friends and I sat on our blanket, sipping wine and indulging in cheese and crackers. The next date is set for 24 June, with another fantastic South Africa band, Prime Circle… unfortunately I’m not going to be able to attend (I’ll get back to that shortly).

Another huge event coming up in July is the biggest horse-racing event of the year on the South African calendar, the Vodacom Durban July! This event is attended by the whose who of everything South African and sometimes I get the feeling it’s more about the outfits people wear and which tent they drink in, than the actual horses, but it’s still a not to be missed event (again, unfortunately I’m going to miss out).

I reason I’m going to be missing out on all these exciting events and the reason there will be no posts from me for a month or so is because I’m off on an African Adventure. I’m flying into Dar es Salaam on Friday (15 June) and making my way back to South Africa overland, via Zanzibar, the Masai Mara, Serengeti, Lake Malawi and Mozambique. I’ll have loads of stories to share on my return! 🙂
