Further Insight & Opinion
The creme de la creme of Cape Town shopping, eating and entertainment, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront (or simply “the Waterfront” for short) is also the the city’s most-visited attraction.
The Waterfront has a number of elements, although when people talk about it, they’re usually speaking of the Victoria Wharf Shopping Centre, the mall that offers most of the retail options, featuring both commercial stores and boutique operations, plus two supermarkets for groceries.
Other nearby shopping areas include the Craft Market and Wellness Center, which focuses on herbal treatments and crafts, and the Red Shed, another workshop with crafts.
Meanwhile, the Clock Tower District (embarkation point for the Robben Island museum) highlights South African food and design with a small shopping center, and the Alfred Mall & Pierhead offers an outdoor walkway with a number of shops and places to dine. It is also a popular area for buskers and other talents, and near the site of the annual Jazzathon.
Finally, there’s a smaller verision of the Victoria Wharf mall adjacent to the Victoria & Alfred Hotel.
