Further Insight & Opinion
Don’t be confused – St. George’s Mall isn’t a mall in the big-buildings-with-shops sense. Instead, it’s a pedestrian walkway in the heart of the city, full of stalls selling African art, jewelery and clothing. Lining the mall, which runs from Wale St. to Riebeeck St. (click here for map), are a number of big-name stores and banks, as well as a plentiful number of cafes.
The mall gets going early, especially in the warm summer months, and breaks down in late afternoon, Monday-Saturday. Cash is usually the only way to pay at most of the stalls. Greenmarket Square, Long Street and the Golden Acre are all within a five minute walk.
