Link Love: Treasure Africa
Many South African websites center on the Big Cities: Cape Town, Jo’burg and Durban. However, there are dozens of other owns that are deserving of your attention… and no, we’re not just taking about the winelands and areas outside Kruger National Park.
Treasure Africa is one website that strives to put a smaller area in South Africa on tourists’ maps. Owners Retha and Pierre van Staden are passionate about their hamlet of Hout Bay, located 25 minutes southwest of Cape Town’s city center. Hout Bay has a host of things travelers love: good food, awe-inspiring views, things to do, and excellent accommodation outside of the stale ‘hotel’ atmosphere.
Treasure Africa not only covers these activities and services in Hout Bay, but those in the neighboring towns of Llandudno, Camps Bay and Noordhoek as well.
The website stands out because each accommodation listed on Treasure Africa has been personally vetted by the van Stadens. All pictures are required to have been taken from the property they represent – no shots of the mountain if all you can see are brick walls. You can also inquire with all properties in the various categories (B&B, self-catering, etc) for a real time saver. Make sure to check out the detailed walks section if you’re into outdoor activities.
Have a question not answered on the site? Feel free to email Retha and Pierre with your inquiry – they’re tireless champions of the area and excellent resources.
