There is, quite simply, no better bargain in the world of Cape Town B&Bs than Koornhoop Manor House. Set on very pretty (and secure) grounds just steps away from Observatory’s funky Lower Main Road, the establishment has answered the prayers of thousands of visitors travelling to Cape Town on a budget – especially those coming and going in groups.

Mind you, they’ve had to book well in advance to get the space. I know – in a previous life, I worked with proprietors Vic and Trish on a semi-annual basis, and was always quite relieved when the various factors of a groups’ stay – number of beds, number of nights, etc. – were firmly inked into their log book. Koornhoop fills up fast.

Founded in 1989 Koornhoop was one of South Africa’s first Guest Houses. The rooms are elegant, comfy and clean, there’s a self-catering option, and you’re guaranteed assiduous service from the proprietors. Koornhoop easily makes SA Logue’s “Best of Cape Town” list.
