Knysna Oyster Festival on the Go
South Africa’s Garden Route is currently aflame with passion, as people flock to the Pick ‘n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, which is gathering steam ahead of its climax this weekend.
Knysna (pronounced “NEYE-zna”) is considered the heart of the famous coastal stretch – from Mossel Bay in the west to Storms River in the east, traversed by the N2 highway (map) – and as such is a very appropriate venue for events that are dedicated to that most Cupid-linked of molluscs, the oyster.
It’s not just about oysters, though. There’s a great night bicycle ride, an ongoing angling competition, plenty of music and comedy, loads of treats for foodies, golf, and one of the biggest marathons on the SA racing calendar, the Pick ‘n Pay Cape Times Knysna Forest Marathon. Have a look:

How to get to Knysna
- Fly: *Best option.* Book a ticket to George Airport (note: link includes info on budget airlines), then hire a car and drive 45 minutes east along the N2.
- Drive: Of SA’s major cities, a drive is only advisable from Cape Town, if you want to make the trip in a single day! Hire a car, and head out along the N2 early in the morning; you’ll get there it time for an all-oyster lunch!
