I went to Chef Pons Asian Kitchen in Gardens for a friends birthday
party recently, we were a table of 20 people and we booked at least a
week in advance. Our party was greeted warmly and once we had fully
arrived, management brought us a round of Tequila and Jagermeister
shots compliments of the house. We ordered shortly after that and our
waitress communicated nicely with us all.

The food, well, there is no way to describe the food apart from being
the most scrumptious tasting meal ever! If you love a bit of chilli
and spice you’ll have to come here, they do great Thai Curries
including the Green and Red, but if your in for a real zing, try the
Jungle curry, so hot it will be sure to blow your top. As we were a
large group we each ordered a dish as well as rice and noodles for the
table. Once the food arrived it was all put in the middle of the
table, (no eating of individual plates here) and we shared all the
dishes. I preferred eating this way as it meant I could try a bit of
everything and to be honest there was still lots left over afterward.
Saying this, I only got to try one piece of their famous Crispy Duck
which is a shame because I know this is a Chinese specialty, we should
have ordered much more duck, it seems the table had a duck frenzy and
it was all gone in seconds. Ive eaten in many of Cape Towns Asian food
restaurants but was my first time at Pons, Wow, Ive finally found what
i love about Asian cuisine all under one roof. They serve a wide
variety of dishes from China, Thailand, Japan and even Mongolia (try
the dramatic Sizzling Mongolian Lamb). Not to forget their finger food
starters like Spring rolls and Tempura’s. The price of the food ranged
from around R50 to R70 per main dish, and they have a fitting
selection of wines too. I will be going back soon and try some of
their other dishes I missed.

The service was very good considering our waitress was looking after
our large group as well as another 3 separate tables, and it was a
Friday night packed to the brim. But again we were made feel very
welcome by the management and staff. The food was prompt and
absolutely perfect, and the restaurants atmosphere was buzzing and
relaxed. Our group was very happy and even happier sharing the bill as
it was not expensive at all. Overall, I was highly impressed all
round. Definitely recommended with fantastic tastes and value for
money.
