Jeff’s South Africa trip ‘07-email discussion- #4

Jeff from the states emailed, requesting some info and help with his itinerary for his upcoming South Africa trip.

Here are his finalized plans for the trip, to the Kruger and the Drakensberg (Dragons Mountain). You can see his previous emails here.

Hi Philip,

I wanted to give you an update on our travel plans. We’ll be arriving Cape Town (from the States via Jo’burg) on March 18 and will be staying a full week until the following Sunday. BTW, we booked a room at the Backpackers. We also really appreciated your advice on staying in Cape Town awhile longer and we can’t wait to get to know the city…..we’ll definitely meet up for a beer.

On the 25th, we are going to rent a car in Jo’burg and check out the Blyde River Canyon on the way to Kruger. We’ll probably overnight in Nelspruit and then spend one night in Kruger and two at the Elephant Plains Private Game Reserve. We originally planned on finishing our trip in the Private reserve, but the dates coincide with the school holidays so many of the reserves were booked. Anyway, from there we’re headed to the Southern Berg and will spend the next 8 days making our way up the Berg back to Jo’burg.

So that’s that.

I also have a quick question: Have you any idea how long it will take us to drive from Sabi Sand to the Sani Lodge in the Southern Berg? I’m wondering if we can do this in one day or if we should stop somewhere along the way.

Best,

Jeff

My Reply:

Hi Jeffrey

The distance you are talking about is around 650km, and I would imagine it would take you maybe 8-9 hours, including stopping for lunch and a couple short sights.

So depending on how leisurely you want to take it, you may want to consider stopping over along the way, perhaps in Newcastle or Ladysmith. (but check out other options too, I would hate for you to miss something great around there)

let me know if you need any help with anything else.

Kind regards

Philip
