Do or/and Die Cape Town Attractions. Top 5

Cape town certainly has an air of mystery about it once you get past the recent first worldliness that has invaded it. There are little bits of magic that, with the help of locals can really make an afternoon memorable if not down right dangerous.

Here is a list of 5 things that I would recommend to visitors to spice up the staid menu offered by legitimate and safety conscious operators.

Jumping Rock – Table Mountain Road: At the base of Table Mountain past the cable car station, keep going about 2-3 km and you will see a small rock pool on your right hand side, you will see a scrambling trail up the side of it used by jumpers. Once at the top, aim dead center and be careful of the thorny trees on your way down!.

Double Decker Bus from Camps Bay to Sea Point: A seemingly innocuous bus trip can turn into a hellish thrill ride. On these narrow roads and from the (disad) vantage point of the top deck your life hangs by a mere thread. Seriously this is not to be missed (all for R5 / 60c).

Climb Signal Hill: Only reasonably safe on a full moon, many bongo playing types climb Signal Hill on such nights. Roughly a 2 hour sunset climb to some of the most breathtaking views ever. The last part is by chains so don’t take a dog, baby or Cello. Remember you have to climb down in the dark also.

Horse riding on Noordhoek beach: Extremely picturesque and affordable too. Rent a horse from a number of operators in Noordhoek Town and race your friends up and down the amazing stretch of beach like Butch Cassidy etc. Only dangerous if you don’t fasten the saddle properly (don’t ask!)

Wind Tunnel: I am sure others people have different names for this natural wonder, but my friends and I found this place beneath the arches of the Civic Center in the foreshore where apparently all civic planning failed. The design forms a gale so strong that you literally have to lean into it at about 45 degrees to stay standing. great fun in a windbreaker.
